NUR 215 - Nursing Concepts III
This course focuses on the medical surgical systems, Neurological, Musculoskeletal, Genitourinary, and Reproductive as it relates to the adult and pediatric patient. Emphasis will be placed on the nursing process which includes nursing interventions, critical thinking, and assessment as it relates to each system. This course will also focus on the care of the childbearing and the childbearing family, reproductive system, and the care of the newborn. Emphasis is placed on health promotion, health maintenance, and health restoration in families during pregnancy, nursing care of the newborn, sexuality transmitted disease, reproduction, and growth and development of the pediatric patient. This course will also focus on the utilization of the nursing process and critical thinking in the care of the client and family with alterations in mental health and illness. Emphasis will be placed on psychiatric/mental health and emotional problems in hospitalized patients as well as in the community settings. Included in each focus area is Pharmacology as it relates across the life span. Emphasis will be on the dosage calculation, nursing interventions, patient teaching, therapeutic indications and the nursing process. Prerequisites: NUR 124. Pre /Co-requisite: BIO 205 and NTR 135. Seven lecture. Six lab. Fall, Spring.
